Review: Baviphat Tea Tree It Trouble Catch BB Cream

I've never tried a Baviphat BB cream before and also haven't really found too many reviews about BB Creams from this Korean brand so I was really curious to try this out and review it for you: The Baviphat Tea Tree It Trouble Catch BB Cream.

As someone who buys a lot of products merely because of its beautiful packing, the Tea Tree it Trouble Catch BB Cream is a real off-turner, because the packing looks plain ugly. Whoever does the graphic design for Baviphat should be fired. The only nice-looking products I have seen from them are the ones from their Fruit Miracle Series.

The Baviphat Tea Tree It Trouble Catch BB Cream comes in a 50ml tube and its active ingredient are Tea Tree Oil, Morus Alba Bark Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract and Beta Glucan (so basically a whole bunch of tree extracts).

Since I obviously didn't buy this BB Cream for the package you can probably guess that I bought it hoping it would do my skin some good, because the Tea Tree It Trouble Catch BB Cream is a BB Cream for oily skin, blemished skin and acne prone skin. It promises to help control sebum production and fight skin troubles thanks to its tea tree formula while covering blemishes.
I have really bad skin with lots of spots and I don't only wish to cover them up, but most of all I am on an endless search for something that will finally put an end to my breakouts.

Tea tree oil is a nearly clear essential oil with a strong camphoraceous odor. It is taken from the leaves of the Narrow-Leaved Tea-Tree and studies support a role for the topical application of tea tree oil in skin care and for the treatment of various diseases and conditions.
I have previously used tea tree oil by putting some of it on my face, mostly on spots itself with cotton buds or puffs and the effect was quite obvious: Tea tree oil is a quite acerb oil and helps drying out spots, thus, helps making them go away faster. When I used it all over my face my skin would get too dry and I would get a rash and red dry spots all over my face. It never was a way for me to stop my breakouts.
The Baviphat Tea Tree It Trouble Catch BB Cream must contain quite a lot tee tree oil, because it has a really strong tea tree-smell. I know of some people who like the smell, but I consider it to be a really harsh, pushy and  unpleasant smell. If you ever consider buying this BB Cream and do not know how tea tree oil smells I strongly advice that you go someplace that sells essential oils and sniff on some tea tree oil bottle first, because this smell is very significant.
When I apply this BB Cream I smell the tea tree oil really intensely, but after a few minutes I stop smelling it - however, I don't know whether the smell actually goes away or I just get used to it, just like with perfume, which I only actually smell after applying and then don't really notice anymore. At least my husband has not complained about me smelling funny so far.

The Tea Tree It Trouble Catch BB Cream comes in one shade only, which is really light:

At first I was quite shocked and thought it would never ever possibly match my skintone. I am still surprised about how light many BB Creams are, considering Asian people usually have darker skintones.

But like it's the case with most BB Creams, it somehow manages to blend in quite well:

However, even though it is not too noticeable off-toned on my face, I still have the feeling that, when applied all over my face, it makes my face look more pale than usual, especially since my skintone is more pink-toned, but the BB cream is more yellow-toned. So this BB Cream is a product only for people with really light skintones.

Since the Baviphat Tea Tree It Trouble Catch BB Cream is a cream for acne-prone skin it only seems logical that it has quite a strong coverage.
I am usually not a fan of BB Creams with too strong coverage, because most of the time it means that the texture is thick and feels unpleasant on my skin. But while this BB Cream has a strong coverage, it is still very liquid, making it easier to apply that other BB Creams with strong coverage, like for example Missha BB Creams.
I think the texture is pushing the limit of my personal sense of how a BB Cream should feel, but is still within an acceptable limit and it doesn't feel too noticeable on my skin.
However, probably because of the texture, this BB Cream starts to look pretty messy on my oily skin after just one or two hours! It doesn't get absorbed into my skin too well and leaves marks wherever I touch my face, or completely sticks to my glasses wherever they touch my face, leaving me with uncovered spots when I take them off.

So, how does it actually work for my spotty skin?
I haven't noticed any overall improvement of my skin condition, like, I don't really have the feeling I was getting less spots (After trying out probably every single available product on the market as well as several products given to me by dermatologist  I can't say that this comes as a surprise), however, just like regular tea tree oil, this BB Cream dries out spots and makes them go away faster, so in the end I can say that yes, it does some good to troubled skin. But because of this effect I think the cream is absolutely not suitable for dry skin, because it will probably only make it even drier.
Considering that it seems to dry out the skin, surprisingly the sebum control isn't too thrilling and my skin starts looking greasy and oily pretty fast again, unless I add some powder on it. That's happening to me with nearly all BB Creams though, so this isn't anything shocking, but I was somehow expecting it to be different with the Tea Tree It Trouble Catch BB Cream.

I think in the end this BB Cream doesn't really give you any different effect than just buying a bottle of tea tree oil and putting it on your spots before your daily makeup routine, and considering the very unflattering shade of the BB Cream that makes me look like a ghost and makes it impossible for me to use it in summer when my skin gets a bit darker, I don't think I will re-purchase this.

This BB Cream also does not contain any kind of SPF, like most BB Creams do, but as the light color will probably make it impossible to wear it in summer for most people I don't think that's a huge disadvantage.
There seems to be a cream called Baviphat Tea Tree It Trouble Catch Sun Cream, instead of Baviphat Tea Tree It Trouble Catch BB Cream, but I was not able to find any information about whether that's just really the same product and one was with SPF and the other without, or whether one of the was just a regular sun cream and no BB Cream at all. The packings of these two look confusingly identical though.

Overall this isn't a bad BB Cream. It has some advantages (Pretty strong coverage with still OK texture, dries out spots), but also some disadvantages (horrible smell, extremely light color, dries out skin, doesn't absorb into skin too well), so in the end advantages and disadvantages probably even out each other. The main problem for me is probably that you have to re-apply, or at least partly fix this BB Cream like every 2 hours or you will look a complete mess. You should also not expect any miracles if you were hoping to improve your skin condition with this.

  5. I agree. Can't expect a tube of BB cream can actually work any miracle.

Yet, I'm still quite interested in this one because I'm looking for a BB cream not too heavy or oily, with medium coverage, and, hopefully, doesn't clog my pores. So I went to Baviphat's website, because they list all ingredients there in most cases I think, but couldn't find this Tea Trea BB cream on their website. Maybe this one is going to be discontinued..??

  6. If you want one with medium coverage this one might not be so great - it has one pf the strongest coverage levels I ever found in BB Creams. I think they have just changed the packing of the BB Cream and it is this one: http://www.baviphat.com/Product/Product_Detail.php?Cat_Code=&Product_ID=11772
